Here’s a practical monthly beekeeper to-do list for Cary, North Carolina and surrounding areas.

September in the Bee Yard

 

  • Fall nectar flow from goldenrod and asters begins.
  • Ensure hives have room to store fall nectar.
  • Reduce entrances again as robbing pressure increases.
  • Continue monitoring mites; treat with fall-approved methods if needed.
  • Continue monitoring small hive beetle populations.
  • Start evaluating winter food stores (goal: 40–60+ lbs for NC).
  • Store unused equipment properly to minimize wax moth damage.
