Our local Morrisville community was devastated on Monday, February 23, 2026 when a fire engulfed an entire apartment complex. According to reports from ABC11, the fire broke out in the early evening hours around 6:15pm. Firefighters arrived on scene to battle the blaze with little left to recover from the flames. There were no deaths, thanks to swift actions taken by residents, community members and local firefighters. However, according to WRAL, 6 people were treated for injuries and 70 people, everyone in the complex, displaced from their homes in the Camden Westwood Morrisville apartments. The Red Cross is helping those displaced find places to stay.
Message from Jessica Lei, Camden District Manager: “Thank you so much for your generosity and support during this difficult time. With so many donations pouring in, we quickly realized [we needed] to partner with NeighborUp to streamline all incoming food, clothing, and household goods. This is where we have been directing all of our impacted residents and they will be given gift cards to shop their pantry and thrift store at no cost. NeighborUp is located at 187 High House Rd. in Cary.”
In addition to gaining access to temporary housing, displaced residents need to replace all of their household items, electronics, kids toys and more. Consider helping a resident and/or entire family find comfort with new or gently used home furnishing and recover some semblance of normalcy with every day items.
