Landscape Design Consultations
Whether you’re new to gardening or an avid gardener, a landscape consultation is a great investment to see your vision come to life!
We customize our landscaping services to meet your specific desires and goals. We resolve design, installation, hardscape and drainage issues.
Gardening has been our business for more than two decades and the landscape designers at Garden Supply Company have the knowledge and experience to help you reach your vision to beautify your landscape.
The cost of an on-site landscape consultation is $265.
Your consult entails:
- Landscape designer spends up to an hour on-site
- Rough drawings will be provided on pictures taken from site visit.
- For budgeting purposes, a typical install starts at $3500.
- From that point it depends on the needs of the customer!
- If you would like a landscape installation, the designer can meet you at the garden center (different appointment time), to review ideas, view plant suggestions and provide an estimate.
- If you’re only looking for ideas to install yourself, the designer can provide rough sketches and planting options.
- We can also provide professional horticulture advice such as plant/tree identification, pruning, soil questions or drainage issues. Please be prepared to take notes.
Larger scale projects, such as extensive master plans will require additional design time, billed at $85/design hour. Ask your landscape designer for further details.

Estimates
Drawings are typically received within 10-14 business days (this can fluctuate depending on the season and size of project).
To maximize your design hour, here some things to think about before your appointment.
- What is the most crucial area or areas of need in my landscape?
- What is my budget? —This helps in prioritizing projects and the best design to meet your budget. A typical install starts at $2500.
- What are the lighting conditions? —What type of sun do these areas get during summer months?
- Are there favorite plants or colors I would like to incorporate?
- How much lawn vs. planting beds do I want?
- If you’re looking for hardscape, let us know your preferred materials: Stones, boulders, gravel, etc.
Larger scale projects, such as extensive master plans will require additional design time which will be billed at $85/design hour. Further details will be provided by your landscape designer.

Meet Alana Cornelison
Alana is a born-and-raised NC native who grew up playing in the dirt. Her interest in gardening and design blossomed while working at Garden Supply Company part time in high school, which led her to pursue a B.S. degree in Horticultural Science and Landscape Design at N.C. State University.
Alana has been actively involved in planting design for more than 5 years and has a particular interest in NC natives, edible landscapes, and permaculture. She helps her clients create meaningful, beautiful and sustainable landscapes.
When she is not busy with work, Alana’s hobbies include cooking with her husband, playing with her two cats named Gizmo and Gadget, propagating and tending to her vast collection of house plants, and reading mystery novels.

Meet Eric Schmalz
Eric has over 25 years experience in the landscape installation industry, working on numerous, award-winning commercial and residential projects. He’s worked professionally in varied climates, bringing a unique perspective and superior knowledge of plants.
Eric graduated with a BS in Ornamental Horticulture from Auburn University. Prior to moving to NC over a decade ago, he worked for landscape companies in Georgia, Oregon and Wisconsin.
Outside of work Eric enjoys spending time with his two daughters, his Vizslador puppy Barkley and pet rabbit named Socrates.
